Mentor Rach, very well led by Ruberlei Viana, surprisingly conquers his fifth victory in the Grande Prêmio ABCCA (Associação Brasileira dos Criadores do Cavalo Árabe) after the dominance of Obstinado Rach until the final 150 meters.

The five-year-old stallion, trained by Lucas Quintana, is part of a group of 11 winning animals and has a lot of experience in the race held on 1,400 meters on dirt for 3 years-old and older, on a special Saturday for the São Paulo Turf , with the holding of the Grande Prêmio Ipiranga (G1) and Grande Prêmio Barão de Piracicaba (G1).

After an electrifying dispute between Mahatma Rach (*Sarmata x Magic All Rach by Ulisses Rach), led by Fernando Larroque, and Obstinado Rach (Atentaddo VE x Obsession Rach by Voltaire Rach) ridden by Jorge Ricardo, world record holder for racing victories, with 13,124 victories on his CV, until he enters the home straight when Obstinado Rach dominates the race.

In the final 200 meters, Mentor Rach (*Sarmata x. Musa Rach by *Polonez) attacks from the outside and overtakes Mahatma Rach, while Obstinado Rach tries to keep first place on the inside. The horse was led to victory by jockey Ruberlei Viana, crossing the finish line seven lengths off second place, with a race time of 1:37.001.

In second position, Obstinado Rach led by jockey Jorge Ricardo, who completed the 1,400m in 1:38,220.
Both Mentor Rach and Obstinado Rach are trained by Lucas Quintana, bred and owned by Rach Stud Agropecuária Ltda., of the Saliba family, main supporter and with the largest number of horses in the races since its return in 2013.
“The race was sensational. Race favoritism was between Mentor and Stubborn. But we also thought that RG El Bak and Mahatma Rach had a chance of winning. Obstinate had been training very well, he was spectacular, with almost Thoroughbred times. In the race he was really ahead, but the Mentor gave an impressive final sprint. Mentor Rach is a pure Polish stallion, son of *Sarmata and grandson of *Polonez horses who have won several races in Poland and is proving to be a champion horse”, said Ricardo Jamil Saliba.
Trainer Lucas Quintana said: “I am very happy with the performance of Mentor Rach, Obstinado Rach and Mahatma Rach, as they are champion horses. We trained a lot this week and Obstinado had every chance of winning, especially being ridden by Jorge Ricardo. But Mentor comes from a lineage of winners from Poland and has demonstrated, once again, his potential to be a great champion and I’m very happy for his fifth victory.”
Jockey Ruberlei Viana commented: “From the start I wanted to be in the top four and I didn’t push Menthor Rach too hard because I knew we could finish the race very well. When I got close to 400 meters I felt he was in the mood to run and I let him set the pace. It was an honor to compete for first place with Jorge Ricardo.”
RG El Bak (RG Karat x Endora by *Wojslaw) brilliantly led by Jeane Alves, the first woman to win the statistics at the Jockey Club de São Paulo, had an exceptional race. After starting last, she started attacking from the outside and a few meters from the finish she passed Mahatma Rach and secured third place. The horse is trained by Estanislau Petrochinski and bred and owned by Claudio Roberto Guimarães Ribas.
Almir José Ribeiro, Racing Director of ABCCA, said: “I want to thank the Brazilian Arabian Horse Breeders Association (ABCCA), in particular the board that has worked tirelessly to promote the Arabian sport horse, in all its modalities.”
He added: “Arabian races have been showing very clearly all the success in Brazil; and this year we will have more than 22 races in total, breaking the record of animals in competition, in number of owners and also a record in the distribution of prizes which, together with the Arabian Cup2021, will exceed R$ 550,000.”

“My special thanks to the commitment of the current board of ABCCA, who spares no effort and who was present at the Jockey Club de São Paulo, honoring the event”.

Congratulations to our sponsors, breeders, owners and professionals for this show provided by the Arabian horse.

In addition to prizes during races, all horses participating in the 2021 Calendar of Races also compete in the 2021 Arabian Cup, Race category.

Grande Prêmio ABCCA is organised by Brazilian Arabian Horse Breeders Association in partnership with Jockey Club de São Paulo.
