A dedicated technical day within the 5th LIOG-2019 Summit reveals a number of technological advances to support and accelerate the development the Lebanese oil and gas sector.

Organizers of the 5th Lebanon International Oil and Gas Summit (5th LIOG-2019) announced the programme of the technical day which will be included for the first time in the agenda of the Summit.

The day will be packed with topics and workshops on the latest technological innovations in the oil and gas industry and their impact on the progress of developing the Lebanese petroleum sector, particularly in terms of accelerating the exploration process.

The technical day will take place on the third day of the summit on the 4th of April, following the main strategic conference which consists mainly of strategic themes and topics covering the whole value chain of the industry.

In addition to topics about the digitalization innovation in the industry, the technical programme will include a very important topic on the innovative technology of “Accelerated Discoveries” which has been pioneered by international services company, Schlumberger.

The company will present this innovative technology and the way it implemented it during the exploration for the giant Zohr field in Egypt and the ways Lebanon can benefit from such advancement in its exploration efforts.

The programme will also include a very important workshop on arbitration and dispute settlement in the oil and gas industry. The workshop which will be facilitated by the Chartered Institute of Arbitration (CIArb) – Lebanon Branch, will address the techniques and salient legal consideration in dispute resolution from both a technical and legal perspectives looking at the entire contractual chain in the sector. All discussions will be based on the related frameworks in Lebanon with emphasis on best practices in the industry.

Another workshop, which will be facilitated by Wärtsilä, a leading international energy company based in Finland, will brainstorm the company’s latest technology related to “Gas to Power” innovations. This may present valuable solutions to Lebanon’s power sector through the use of natural gas.

The activities of the day will presented by leading experts including:

  • Mr. Karim Badawi, Managing Director – Egypt & Eastern Mediterranean, Northern Middle East, Schlumberger.
  • Me. Ziad Obeid, Managing Partner, Obeid Law Firm, Lebanon / Chairman of the CIArb, Lebanon Branch
  • Mr.  Thomas Bourliere, Technical Business Development Manager – LNG Solutions, Wärtsilä Singapore Pte Ltd, Singapore.



The technical day has been organized in cooperation with the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) – Beirut Section, which will run special activities and competitions for a number of selected Lebanese college students in related areas.  

The 5th LIOG-2019 Summit, a leading oil and gas event in Lebanon and the region, takes place from 2 to 4 April, 2019 at the Hilton Beirut Habtoor Grand Hotel. It will be held under the patronage of the Lebanese Minister of Energy and Water, HE Mrs. Nada Boustani Khoury, who will inaugurate the Summit.

With a 2-day strategic conference and one technical day, the summit will again represent a major platform for hundreds of oil and gas companies and investors from Lebanon and around the world along with a large number of supporting organizations from both the public and private sector.  

Nearly 50 Lebanese and international experts and high-level officials from the private and public sectors will contribute as speakers to share their insight and know-how with over 500 delegates from around the world throughout the three days of the event.
