MIPTV (Marché International des Programmes de Télévision) is an event which takes place annually in Cannes. It is essentially a content market for co-producing, buying, selling, financing and distributing entertainment content. It provides the people involved in the TV, film, digital and audiovisual content, production and distribution industry a market conference and networking forum to discover future trends and trade content rights on a global level. During All Around Magazine coverage today (8 April 2019) on the first day of MIPTV event, that will open its doors till Thursday 11th, we had the chance to meet Mr. Bandar F. Alabdulsalam, CEO of Roshan and Creative Media, and we had this interview:
Tell us about your self.
My name is Bandar F. Alabdulsalam, and I am the CEO of Roshan and Creative Media in Saudi Arabia and Dubai. I am participating at MIPTV as part of my partnership with Gulf Radio & TV Org. As I aquired exclusive rights in producing and presenting The Gulf Radio and Television Festival for the 3 coming seasons, we are organizing the whole festival, including the sponsoring, the identity, the exclusive rights, and so on. So this festival will have a great leap, as it will emulates standards similar to international festivals and events, such as the Oscars. So my participation in MIPTV today is part of our marketing for the upcoming The Gulf Radion and Television Festival.
Websites and applications that broadcasts serieses, movies and programs are nowadays dominating in this field. How is that affecting the TV channels, and what are your future exoectations regarding this?
I am expecting for these applications and websites to be dominating in the near future, since sitting infront of TV and watch the programs or series is not preferable among large number of people. That is because the cell phones allow them to watch what they want any where and any time. This is the reason why most of the companies are developing websites and applications to broadcast, and we ourselves, are working on a project similar to Netflix, that will be taking into consideration Arabic and Saudi content.
You participated previously in Cannes film Festival, are you going through this experience again?
I participated 10 years ago in the category of Short Movies. In its next edition, I will announce a big production for a Saudi film.
